Conrad Veidt, beloved actor and performer, passed away at the age of 50 on April 3rd, 1943. Born on January 22nd, 1893 in Potsdam, Germany, Conrad's professional career in theater and film began in 1912 and soon took him around the world. His classical training, considerable dramatic range and advanced acting skills saw him being cast in a variety of leading roles in both German and English language productions. His turns in several silent classics such as 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' and 'The Man Who Laughs' made him one of the most recognized actors of the era. His legendary performance as Major Strasser in the 1942 classic 'Casablanca' won him worldwide fan acclaim. Conrad had an innate curiosity and interest in a wide array of disciplines outside of acting. In addition to his fulfilling his passion for theater and film, he also exhibited a remarkable level of study in art and design, music, English and French languages, photography, painting and animal husbandry. In addition to a long list of iconic performances, Conrad Veidt will be remembered for his humor, wit and character, as well as his tireless dedication to his craft and profession. He will be missed by many, worldwide.
