She was best known for her roles in films and television, including her role as Frau Blücher in Young Frankenstein (1974) and her portrayal of Phyllis Lindstrom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973-77) for which she won an Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. Ms. Leachman made appearances in over 100 films and dozens of television series, into her 90s. She wrote the memoir Cloris. However, it was her extensive work on broadway, earning Tony Award nominations for two plays, that showed her wide range of talent. Ms. Leachman was known for her outspoken and witty interviews, that often poked fun at her own age and insinuated a youthful energy free from society’s constraints. Throughout her career, Ms. Leachman was a powerful advocate for the rights of animals and other humanitarian causes. Her talents, wit, and enduring spirit will be greatly missed.
