King Chulalongkorn, also known as King Rama V of Siam, died on the 23rd of October 1910 at his palace in Bangkok, at the age of 57. He was born on September 20, 1853, and was Siam's fifth monarch of the Chakri dynasty. He was responsible for modernizing Thailand and transitioned it from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy in relation to western governments. During his reign he reformed the system of tax collection, created a standing army, drafted a new centralized government system, and established a permanent diplomatic corps. He was a beloved leader, remembered by the people of Thailand for his modern reforms and social fairness. His impact on Thailand can still be felt today, recognizing him as one of the country's most important monarchs. Chulalongkorn is survived by his remaining children and their descendants.
