Chico Marx, a comedian, musician, and actor, passed away October 11th, 1961, at the age of 74. Born Leonard Marx in New York City, Chico Marx was the oldest of the Marx Brothers, a group consisting of brothers Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Gummo, and Zeppo. Known for his comedic timing and musical ability on the piano, Chico began his career at a young age alongside his brothers. Chico's big break came with the release of their first successful Broadway show, I'll Say She Is, which ran from 1924 to 1925. Chico Marx appeared in 14 feature-length films alongside his brothers between 1929 and 1949, with a few small television appearances later in life. He earned a reputation for playing an English-mangling gambler character and was also known for his piano playing in numerous films. Throughout his acting and musical career, Marx was renowned for his wit and ability to captivate audiences with a joke or two. His lasting influence on film and comedy left its mark in the world. He is survived by his four siblings.
