Cheng was an accomplished musician and bassist, contributing a prominent and defining element to Deftones’ sound. He grew to become a much admired figure within the music world both for his talented and creative bass-work, as well as the kind and humble demeanor with which he worked. He was the author of a memoir, This Is the Life: One Man's Journey, which told of his spirituality and faith before and after the tragic car crash which left him hospitalized in a coma for over 3 years. Cheng is survived by his brother, Ming, and his sister, Li-Cheng. He will be greatly missed by the music world and all of those who knew him.
