Cheick Tioté, an internationally renowned Ivorian footballer who played in the Premier League and represented his home country in international competition, passed away on June 5, 2017 at the age of 30. A native of Bouaké, Côte d'Ivoire, Tioté started his professional career at SUC Abidjan. He quickly rose through the ranks and gained a reputation as one of the most promising talents in the nation. He signed with Dutch club Twente in 2008, and in 2010, he made the move to England's Premier League to play for Newcastle United. During his time there, he became known for his powerful midfield presence and helped the team achieve a fifth place finish in the 2011/2012 season. Tioté returned to his home country in 2016, but lasting just more than a year with the club, he announced his retirement from professional football. A genuinely gifted athlete, Cheick Tioté was admired for his hard work, skill, and ability to bring teammates together on and off the field. He will be remembered by all as a leader, a passionate footballer, and a great person.
