Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Cuban revolutionary and guerrilla fighter, died on October 9th, 1967, in la Higuera, Bolivia at the age of thirty-nine. Born in Rosario, Argentina on June 14th, 1928, the physician and Marxist revolutionary was widely celebrated for his dedication to championing leftist causes around the world. After joining Fidel Castro's revolutionary movement in Cuba, Guevara played a major role in the country's eventual overthrow of its pro-American government. Guevara then took on various diplomatic and military roles in Cuba's new government, and went on to lead a popular insurgency in Bolivia until his death at the hands of Bolivian forces in 1967. In his lifetime, Guevara was known for his revolutionary spirit and commitment to Marxist principles that inspired Latin American revolutionaries for generations. He will be remembered for his vital hand in helping to liberate Cuba and achieve its revolutionary goals.
