Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, a fashion icon and the beloved wife of John F. Kennedy Jr., passed away on July 17, 1999 at the age of 33. Carolyn was born on January 7, 1966 in White Plains, New York to William and Ann Freeman Bessette. She graduated from Boston University in 1988 with a degree in Education and Business Administration. Following college, she worked as an assistant to Calvin Klein, and then as a publicist for the company. In 1996 she married John F. Kennedy Jr., after they had been introduced by mutual friends. It was the third marriage for John and the first for Carolyn. The Kennedy couple were featured on the cover of many prominent magazines and Carolyn became an iconic fashion figure of the late 90’s. Together they enjoyed traveling, sailing, and their life in the public eye. Carolyn will be remembered as a beautiful woman with great style, intelligence, generosity, and compassion for those around her. She made it her life’s work to be a supportive wife, friend, and confidant to those in her life. She is survived by her parents, and her husband, John Kennedy Jr., who tragically passed away later in 1999.
