Burt Bacharach, the internationally renowned composer of popular music, died on February 8, 2023, at the age of 94. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Bacharach showed early promise as a musician, playing the piano and saxophone. He started writing songs while attending college, and after a stint in the Army during World War II, he moved to Los Angeles, where he began working as a session musician. In the 1950s, Bacharach teamed up with lyricist Hal David, and the two wrote some of the most iconic songs of the era, including "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," "What the World Needs Now Is Love," and "I Say a Little Prayer." Their partnership continued for more than two decades, and Bacharach went on to write music for stage and screen, as well as for other artists. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Bacharach is survived by his wife, Angie, and four children.
