Bud Abbott, a beloved entertainer, passed away on April 24th, 1974, at the age of 76. He was best known for performing in the immensely popular comedy duo Abbott and Costello. The team appeared in the 1940's television program “The Abbott and Costello Show”, as well as in several films in the 1940s and 1950s. Bud Abbott was born William Alexander Abbott in Asbury Park, NJ. He began his career as a burlesque performer and had some success in vaudeville. He eventually formed a partnership with fellow comedian Lou Costello in 1935. Abbott and Costello became wildly popular, achieving national success in 1941 with the now-famous comedy routine “Who’s on First?”. The pair continued to be a major draw until the late 1940s. After the dissolution of the team, Abbott continued to work as a solo act and in television projects. Bud Abbott’s talents left a lasting influence in the entertainment industry. He will be remembered with fondness and admiration.
