Legendary British entertainer Sir Bruce Forsyth passed away on 18th August 2017 at the age of 89. Sir Bruce was born in Edmonton, Middlesex on 22nd February 1928 to mother Florence and father John Forsyth. As a child, Forsyth trained as a dancer and entertainer, working in several venues around London. In the 50s and 60s, his career began to take off, becoming a regular on a number of popular UK television shows such as Sunday Night at the London Palladium and The Generation Game. In 1971 he began to host the variety show The Bruce Forsyth Show and by 1978 was hosting the iconic, long-running BBC show Play Your Cards Right. Throughout his career, Forsyth achieved multiple personal successes, including being awarded Best Light Entertainment Performance at the 1975 British Academy Television Awards and inducted as a Fellow of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2006. Queen Elizabeth II also honoured Forsyth with a CBE in 2011 for his services to entertainment and charity. Forsyth was married twice; first to Penny Calvert in 1953, and then to Wilnelia Merced in 1983. He is survived by his six children and five grandchildren. Throughout his long and celebrated career, Bruce Forsyth created beloved television memories for millions of people. He will be sorely missed.
