Brian Dennehy, a Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, passed away at the age of 81 on 2020-04-15 00:00:00 UTC. Dennehy was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 9th, 1938, the son of Hannah and Edward Dennehy. He attended the University of Connecticut and Columbia University where he studied Chinese History. Dennehy made his Broadway debut in 1977 in Knuckles and then went on to star in scenes from Waiting for Godot, Long Day's Journey into Night and Death of a Salesman, winning a Tony Award for his role in the latter. Dennehy also appeared in films such as First Blood, F/X and Presumed Innocent, for which he took home a Golden Globe Award. In addition to his acting achievements, Dennehy also led an active life in his later years. He directed more than forty plays, received two honorary doctorates and was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Dennehy is survived by his wife Jennifer Arnott, as well as four children and two stepchildren. He will be remembered for his performances and his lasting impact on the theater and film worlds.
