Bobby Moore, who rose to worldwide fame as a professional footballer, passed away on February 24th, 1993, after spending 51 years on Earth. Moore was born in Barking, East London, and moved to West Ham United in 1958, where he made a lasting impact in the world of football. Moore’s skill and tenacity earned him an international debut with the England team in 1962 and, over his 10 year career, he went on to become the only English footballer ever to have won a World Cup, captaining the historic England side in 1966. He was also appointed OBE in 1967 and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1964 and 1970. Upon retiring from professional football in 1973, he had played 108 times for England, making him the country’s most capped player. His legacy will live on, appreciated by generations of football fans.
