Robert George "Bob" Uecker, a beloved sports announcer and former professional baseball player, passed away on January 16, 2025 at the age of 90. He was born on January 26, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to William and Mary Uecker. Uecker was known for his wit and humor, both on and off the field. He began his professional baseball career in 1962 as a catcher for the Milwaukee Braves. He went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies before retiring in 1967 due to an injury. After his playing career, Uecker transitioned to broadcasting and became known as the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers. He also had a successful career as a television and radio host, appearing on shows such as "The Tonight Show" and "Just for Laughs". His quick wit and hilarious commentary endeared him to fans and made him a household name. Uecker's contributions to the world of sports were recognized when he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2001 and the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. He also received the prestigious Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence in 2003. Off the field, Uecker was known for his charitable work and for being a kind and generous person. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and fans. Uecker is survived by his wife, Judy, and their four children. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or service. Instead, his family asks that contributions be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in his memory. Bob Uecker will be remembered for his legendary career and his larger-than-life personality.
