Bob Knight, former college basketball coach, who won the most college basketball games ever by a head coach, passed away on November 1, 2023, at the age of 83. An Ohio native, Knight started building a college basketball dynasty in 1971, when he began a Hall of Fame coaching career at Indiana University, where he won three NCAA National Championships. He later coached at Texas Tech, leading the Red Raiders to the National Invitational Tournament championship in 2002. During his long and decorated career, he won a total of 902 games – an NCAA record for men’s college basketball coaches at the time of his retirement in 2008. A month after he retired, he was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In a statement, the NCAA called Knight “the master of the game” and “an iconic leader whose drive to succeed on and off the court was matched only by his passion to teach. His impact on the game of basketball can still be felt today.” Bob Knight can be remembered fondly for his achievements as an innovator and mentor. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, hustle and commitment to the game of basketball.
