Bob Fosse, iconic award-winning director, choreographer, and performer, passed away on September 23rd, 1987, at the age of 60. A household name in the entertainment world, Fosse is remembered for his extensive work in dance, music, and the theatre. Fosse grew up in Chicago, where he discovered his love for performing. After studying literature and journalism at the University of Miami, Fosse joined the vaudeville scene in the 1940s, performing in shows across the country. His career took off soon after, with several Broadway credits to his name. Fosse was celebrated for his signature style, often characterized by sharp, angular, and highly-dramatic movements. Fosse made his foray into directing in the 1960s, directing film and theatre productions alike. Some of his most acclaimed works include Cabaret, All That Jazz, and Sweet Charity. Throughout his directing career, Fosse won nine Tony Awards, including two special Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement, and received a posthumous Oscar for directing Cabaret in 1975. Fosse's choreography earned him an Emmy Award, two Academy Award nominations, and five Dora Mavor Moore Awards. Fosse is remembered as a revolutionary force in the theatre and film industry. His artistry and direction continue to inspire artists today.
