He assumed office in December 2016 and retired from his service in December 2020. He had been an officer in the Indian Army since 1978 and had previously held many positions, including Vice Chief of Army Staff, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern and Central Commands. Bipin Rawat was a notable recipient of several awards, including Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, and Uttam Yudh Seva Medal. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply remembered and sorely missed.
