On Wednesday, October 14th, 1977, America lost one of its greatest performers and icons, Bing Crosby. Born Harry Lillis Crosby on May 3rd, 1903, he led an exemplary life and made a huge imprint on American pop culture. Bing Crosby was best known for his singing, with many hits over the years that spanned genres like jazz, swing, and popular songs. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1944 for his role in 'Going My Way' and 10 Grammy awards. He also was the top grossing actor in 1943 and starred in a variety of films during the 30s, 40s, and 50s. His career and life ended at the age of 74, in La Morte, California. He is preceded in death by four of his sons, Mary Frances Crosby and Dixie Lee Crosby. He is survived by four of his sons, Gary, Phillip, Dennis, and Lindsey; his wife, Kathryn Grant; and two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. Bing Crosby will forever be remembered for his positive influence and unforgettable performances that still live on in our culture today.
