It is with deep regret that family and friends announce the passing of John William Minton, known to many as Big John Studd, on March 20th, 1995 at age 47. Big John Studd was an American professional wrestler, notable for his appearances with WWE and NJPW. Born on February 19th, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland, Big John Studd was influenced by his father's passion for professional wrestling and began competing himself in 1973. He was highly noted for his burly build, often wearing a black leather vest and tights. In 1979, he and his tag team partner, "King Kong" Bundy, were crowned the first-ever WWWF World Tag Team Champions. He went on to have memorable feuds with Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Big John Studd was a two-time WWWF International Tag Team Champion as well as AWA World Tag Team Champion. He also held the prestigious NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Big John Studd was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and is remembered for his contribution to professional wrestling. He is survived by his wife, three children, and friends. John William Minton (Big John Studd) will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
