On October 13, 2016, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand passed away peacefully at the age of 88. His Majesty had served as the King of Thailand for 70 years, making him the longest-serving monarch in Thai history. Regarded as the father of the nation in Thailand, His Majesty provided the country with tireless service and a deep sense of dedication to improving the quality of life for all of his citizens. During his time as the King of Thailand, he navigated the country through multiple troubled periods of unrest, while launching a series of projects aimed at alleviating poverty, preserving the environment and conserving natural resources. King Bhumibol was the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his lifetime, including the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Chrysanthemum from the Emperor of Japan, the Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic from King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and a Knight with Grand Cordon of the Order of the White Elephant from King Bhumibol’s own royal house. His Majesty is survived by his wife Queen Sirikit, his four children and nine grandchildren. Thailand mourns the passing of one of the most revered monarchs in its history. His life and legacy of service and dedication to the people of Thailand will not be forgotten.
