Benny Hill, the iconic British comedian, has passed away in the night, at age 68. Benny was born in Southampton in 1924 and began his career in the entertainment business as a singing performer on cruise ships. His first television commercial was in 1951. From then on, Benny remained an ever-recognizable presence on TV in Britain, mining his slapstick humour. He starred in and wrote many of his own shows, including ‘The Benny Hill Show’ and ‘Benny Hill Time’. His work on television reached global audiences and made him a beloved character across the world. Throughout his career, Benny created many memorable characters such as ‘Fred Scuttle’ and ‘Mr. Belvedere’ and his influence on entertainment and comedy remained indelible. He was a true master of his craft and a timeless comedic talent. Benny will be dearly missed.
