Barron Hilton, an American businessman and philanthropist, passed away on September 19, 2019, at the age of 91. Hilton was born into one of America's most famous families, the Hiltons. He was the third child and second son of hotel founder Conrad Hilton. He was also the brother of the late socialite and actress, the Hon. Francesca Hilton. He served in the US Navy Air Corp during World War II, and subsequently graduated with an economics degree from the University of Southern California in 1951. He began his career in the family hotel business in 1948, at age 17. Starting as a hotel desk clerk, he rose through the ranks to become president, chairman and CEO of the Hilton Hotels Corporation, a position he held between 1966 and 1996. Upon his retirement, the family business, now called Hilton Hotels & Resorts, operated more than 550 hotels in 76 countries, had over 105,000 employees and boasted annual revenues of $5.5 billion. Under his watch, Hilton Hotels also became the first hotel chain to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Hilton is remembered for his business acumen, philanthropic efforts, and was widely respected as one of the most successful entrepreneurs of modern times. He is survived by five sons and two daughters including his son, Steven M. Hilton, who is the chairman of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
