Legendary gangster Baby Face Nelson (born Lester Joseph Gillis) died on November 27th, 1934 at the age of 25. Baby Face Nelson's life of crime began at the age of 14, when he joined the suburban Chicago suburb gang The Elmwood Park Melvin Street Thieves. As a young adult, he was a personal confidant of infamous Dillinger Gang leader John Dillinger, and is credited as the first gangster to use a submachine gun in robberies. In the three years before his death, Baby Face Nelson went on a massive robbery spree, robbing at least one bank, and embarking on multiple pipeline and warehouse heists. He also killed two FBI agents and wounded two more. Much of his death remains subject to debate. According to legend, he was killed in a shootout with the FBI in Illinois, but some claim he died of his wounds at an amateur doctor's surgery in Wisconsin. In either event, Baby Face Nelson's life was cut short at a young age, and he will be remembered as one of the unforgettable faces of the era of organized crime.

Death is a distant rumor to the young. Andrew A. Rooney
