On February 9, 2008, Baba Amte, whose full name was Murlidhar Devidas Amte, passed away at the age of 93. Baba Amte was an Indian social activist and reformer who was known for his work towards ending social inequalities and to help people with disabilities through his organization Anandwan. Baba Amte's life work was characterized by a mission to assist those who had been marginalized by larger society. He provided extensive help for the poor and underprivileged in India and created several initiatives to increase access to education and healthcare. He also advocated for better laws and social reforms protecting the rights of people with disabilities. Baba Amte's iconic life was widely acknowledged, including being honored with the Padma Vibhushan in 1987, India's second highest civilian award. He will be remembered for his devotion to creating social justice and helping those in need.
