Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, a renowned legal scholar, politician, and social activist, passed away on December 6, 1956, at the age of 65. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, in the town of Mhow in the Central Provinces of British India. He was visited by a British political agent who was struck by Ambedkar's intellect and personality and recommended him for admission to Elphinstone College in Bombay. Ambedkar went on to earn multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Bombay University in 1912, and a master's degree in Economics from the University of London in 1915. Ambedkar is known for being a driving force behind India's constitution-drafting process, having served as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee in 1947. He was also the first law minister of the Indian Union and the principal architect of the Constitution of India. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ambedkar was an outspoken social activist who campaigned for the social acceptance and civil rights of India's so-called "untouchables." He founded a number of organizations to protect and strengthen their legal and civil rights, when such laws were still in their infancy. Ambedkar is remembered for his tireless efforts to end the caste system in India and bring social justice to oppressed citizens. Over a century of his life, Ambedkar was instrumental in transforming India from an agrarian economy to one of the most prestigious and powerful nations in the world. His legacy lives on not only in India but around the world.
