Antoni Gaudí, a world-renowned Catalan architect and one of the most famous representatives of Catalan modernism, passed away on June 10th, 1926 in Barcelona, Spain. He was 73 years old. Gaudí's architectural style was heavily influenced by organicism, with a unique approach to shape and form. His works are renowned for combining Catalan Modernism and elements of Gothic architecture, drawing inspiration from nature with the influences of Art Nouveau. Gaudí’s most internationally renowned work is the Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona, which began in 1882 and remains incomplete today. In his lifetime, Gaudí was awarded the Barcelona municipal gold medal for his architecture in 1905, and received recognition from Spanish royalty and the Vatican. He also collaborated on several projects with renowned Spanish painter Joan Cornella throughout his career. Gaudí’s works have been widely enjoyed and appreciated around the world in the nearly a century since his death, and continue to draw thousands of visitors to Barcelona and Catalonia every year.
