Russian playwright and short story author, Anton Chekhov, died at the age of 44, on July 15th 1904. Chekhov was a celebrated writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose work was comparable to that of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. His plays, including The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, and The Cherry Orchard are some of the most frequently performed works of the modern era. Chekhov was also an influential short story writer whose works, such as The Lady with the Pet Dog, are considered masterpieces. Chekhov is survived by his wife Olga Knipper-Chekhova, his sister Maria, and his brother Nikolai. He will be remembered as one of the foremost voices of Russian literature, and his legacy will live on for generations to come.
