The entertainment and media industry has lost a longstanding icon as the acclaimed actress, singer, and producer Angela Lansbury passed away on October 11, 2022. She was 96 years old. Lansbury was born in London, England on October 16, 1925, and raised in New York. A Tony Award-winning star, she attained early success in the theatre, most notably originating the role of Googie Gomez in the original Broadway production of "The Boyfriend" in 1954. She won her first Tony Award in 1966 for her performance in "Dear World", and her fifth in 2009 for starring in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". In addition to her distinguished career on-screen and on-stage, Lansbury's career as a recording artist and songwriter spanned six decades, with her biggest hit being the theme song to the classic television series “Murder, She Wrote”. She also lent her voice to films such as Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and won an Academy Award nomination for her role in the 1945 classic "The Picture of Dorian Gray". A private woman whose opinion was highly valued, she served as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF for several years. Lansbury had been progressing in age and her work was still greatly appreciated in many respects. She will be remembered as a distinguished and celebrated artist whose contributions to the entertainment and media industry will continue to live on long after her passing.
