Today, we mourn the passing of Andy Williams, singer, producer, and entertainer, who died on September 25, 2012 at the age of 84. Born Howard Andrew Williams to an musical family in Wall Lake, Iowa, on December 3, 1927, Andy developed a love for singing early in life. His first professional music performance was as a member of his family's musical group, the Williams Brothers. In 1954, he launched his solo career with his first top-twenty hit, "Canadian Sunset". Throughout his storied career, his smooth crooning style and relatable demeanor earned him millions of fans around the globe, including 18 gold and three platinum records over seven decades. His recording of "Moon River", which he performed at the 1962 Academy Awards, earned him an Oscar for best original song and became one of his signature pieces. In addition to his recording career, Andy Williams also worked as a producer, manager, and television show host. His Andy Williams Show aired from 1962-1971, and was later reincarnated as The Andy Williams Showfrom 1976-1979. He remained a well-known and beloved figure in the show business world, appearing in television movies, and making cameos and guest appearances well into his retirement. Andy is survived by his last wife, Debbie, and three children from a previous marriage, Robert, Noelle, and Christian. He was pre-deceased by his older brother, Bob, and both of his parents. Andy will be remembered fondly as one of the iconic voices of the 20th century, and for creating a unique style that reached music lovers across the world. He will remain forever in our hearts and is gone, but not forgotten.
