Andy Warhol, prominent American artist and filmmaker, passed away on February 22, 1987. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1928, Warhol graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949 and quickly established a presence in the New York art world of the 1950s and 1960s. Warhol's developed a distinctive style combining elements of popular culture and modern art to create iconic works, including prints, paintings, photographs, and short films. In 1967, Warhol founded the experiential art collective known as the Factory, where he could produce designs and artwork in a collective environment. Warhol's efforts helped to redefine the scope of modern art, and to this day, his iconic works remain among the most influential pieces ever produced. In addition to his artwork, Warhol wrote numerous books and lectured extensively at universities and schools. Warhol is remembered and revered for breaking the boundaries of traditional art and pushing them to never before imagined limits.
