Andréi Chikatilo
Soviet serial killer (1936–1994).

Andrei Chikatilo, born on October 16, 1936, died on February 14, 1994. He was 57 years old. Andrei Chikatilo had a long and varied life. Raised in the Ural Mountains in the former Soviet Union, he graduated from Rostov University in 1963 with a degree in Russian language and literature. He worked as a schoolteacher and was a war veteran of the Soviet Union's conflict with Afghanistan. Andrei Chikatilo was also known for a long series of grizzly murders for which he was convicted and sentenced to death in October of 1992. He was found guilty of 52 out of 53 counts related to the numerous sexual assaults and killings of boys and girls in the Rostov region of the former Soviet Union. The state of Russia carried out his execution two years later. He is survived by his wife and two children, who live in the region.
