Andrés was born on March 13, 1967 in Medellín, Colombia, and was known to friends and family for being an all-around nice guy with a passion for soccer. He began his career as a defender at his hometown club Atlético Nacional, where he made a name for himself as one of the greatest soccer talents in Colombia. Andrés Escobar went on to enjoy an impressive career with Colombia's national team, playing an integral role in their successes. He was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, and his career culminated in his selection for the 1994 FIFA World Cup squad. Tragically, he died on July 2, 1994, shortly after Colombia's disastrous performance at the tournament. Andrés' memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all sports fans in Colombia.
