André Roussimoff, known to the world of professional wrestling as 'André the Giant', passed away on 1993-01-28, aged 46. Born in Coulommiers, France on May 19, 1946, André was husky from birth, and already 1.88 meters tall and 148 kilograms by the time he turned 12. His height and size continued to increase well beyond what was considered normal for a man, despite his attempts to reduce his size. André enjoyed a successful career in professional wrestling, beginning in the 1960s and lasting until his death in 1993. He toured extensively in the United States and Canada, becoming a beloved icon in the sport. As well as appearing in numerous wrestling matches, he featured in several films and television shows. Well-known for his great size and strength, André used his celebrity status to help organisations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Special Olympics. He provided youngsters with the opportunity to see him perform, and inspired many to become involved in amateur and professional wrestling. André will be remembered for his incredible contribution to the sport of professional wrestling, as well as his unique and instantly recognisable presence in popular media. He was an inspiration to many, as an athlete, actor, and philanthropist.
