Alexis Arquette, who blazed trails for the transgender community throughout her life, passed away on 11 September 2016 at the age of 47. Alexis, whose legal name was Robert, was born on 28 July 1969 in Los Angeles, California. From early in her life, she broke boundaries by expressing her gender identity. As an actress, her breakout role was as a Boy George impersonator in the 1996 film, The Wedding Singer. Alexis Edward at the time of her appearances, and then legally changed her name to Alexis Arquette. Always a trailblazer, she was among the first actors to and discuss her transition publicly. She gave a moving performance in the film Last Exit to Brooklyn. Additionally, Alexis was known for her many musical and acting performances, including Boy Meets Girl, Breakfast of Aliens, and Blended. Her passion for music remains legendary, evident in her work as a musician and entertainer, even as she faced declining health in her later years. Alexis is survived by her siblings Rosanna, Richmond, Patricia, and David Arquette. A true forerunner in the transgender community, Alexis Arquette will be remembered for her courage and creativity.
