Occupations
Empress Consort

Alexandra Feodorovna, formerly Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, virtually Tsarina of Russia, died on July 17th 1918 at the age of 46. She was the consort of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and the mother of six children. Alexandra was born in Darmstadt, Grand Duchy of Hesse, German Empire, in 1872, as the eldest daughter of Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, and Princess Alice, a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. Alexandra was married to Tsar Nicholas II in November 1894 and honored with the title of Tsaritsa of Russia. She was beloved by the Russian people for her commitment to the Orthodox faith and her genuine favor for her subjects. Unfortunately, in the 20th century, Russia was thrown into turmoil: in 1905, she and her husband were forced to abdicate their throne, and thereafter were placed under house arrest for the remainder of their lives. Alexandra Feodorovna was a devoted wife and mother who faced her final days with dignity and love for her family. She will be remembered for her virtues of faith, strength, and grace.
