Alexander Litvinenko, aged 43, died on 23rd November 2006 in London, United Kingdom. Alexander was born in Voronezh, Soviet Union. He was a former Russian spy, and a British naturalized citizen. He was a fierce critic of the Russian Government, and was a founding member of the International Russia Liberal Democratic Party. He was an outspoken critic of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. He wrote two books on his investigations into the Russian security services, and made many public statements on the state of Russian security services. Alexander died after ingesting the radioactive isotope polonium-210. It is believed that this poisoning was a deliberate act by persons unknown. Alexander was survived by his wife, Marina Litvinenko, and their son Anatoly Litvinenko.
