Alexander Haig (1924-2010) died on February 20, 2010 at the age of 85. Haig was a highly-decorated United States Army General, serving in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. A lawyer by education, Haig received degrees from both the United States Military Academy at West Point and Georgetown University. Haig rose through the ranks of the military and became White House Chief of Staff to President Richard Nixon, the United States Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe. He was the very first bearer of the 32nd Degree of the Order of the Collar of the Supreme Order of the Christ by the Grand Master of the Order. Haig ran for President of the United States in 1988, which ended in failure, and went on to become a corporate chief executive and chairman for United Technologies Corporation from 1988 to 1989. In 2009 Haig founded a consulting firm, Worldwide Associates, Inc. Haig was remembered for his dedication to service, passion for his career, and commitment to education. He is survived by his wife, Pat Haig, and his four children.
