Albert Fish, a 65-year-old resident of New York, passed away on 1936-01-16. He was born and raised in Washington D.C. where he lived until his death. Fish was known for being a prolific criminal and a convicted serial child killer and cannibal. He had a history of mental illness, which included delusions, and was known to have claimed to have had an "urge to brake the law." Before his final capture in 1934, he had pleaded guilty to three counts of murder in New York and New Jersey. Fish was convicted of murdering 10-year-old Grace Budd in 1928 and was sentenced to death in 1935. His execution took place in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in January 1936. Fish's infamous crimes and complex psychological state were documented extensively by psychiatrists and physicians. He was one of the first serial killers to draw widespread media attention in the United States and remains one of the most notorious convicted murderers of the 20th century.
