Abe Vigoda (21 February 1921 - 26 January 2016), an American actor best known for his roles in "The Godfather" and "Barney Miller," passed away on 26 January 2016 in New Jersey at the age of 94. Vigoda was born in New York City to a family of Russian Jewish immigrants. After beginning his performing career as a theatre actor in the 1940s, Vigoda made his television debut at age 50 in "The Ronny Graham Show" in 1971. Vigoda's star rose with his role as Salvatore Tessio in the 1972 classic "The Godfather," and he soon gained further success by playing Lieutenant Fish in the 1970s TV comedy "Barney Miller" for five years. Vigoda continued to appear in film and television roles until his death, and received several awards and accolades throughout his career, including an Emmy nomination for his guest appearance on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" in 1997. His memory will live on through his impressive body of work in cinema and television.
